Students Become Published Authors

A group of Wellacre students are celebrating after becoming published authors, with their work featured in the book ‘Mission Chaos - Tales from Lancashire.’

From over 19,000 entries in the nationwide Young Writers competition, the following students’ work was successfully selected: Year 8 students George and James, and Year 11 students Oliver, Matthew and Luke.

In literacy lessons, students were challenged to write a mini survival saga in just 100 words using a type of contamination to inspire their story.

The national competition, organised by Young Writers, invited submissions from secondary school students with the aim of inspiring creative and original writing with the thrilling survival theme…

“Scenes of chaos so epic, they have almost eliminated the entire human race. Will the survivors manage to rebuild civilisation or will chaos reign, changing the world forever…”

Young Writers said:

“We’ve enjoyed reading every entry and it’s fantastic to see how the theme has captured the imaginations of students of all ages and abilities.”

Mr Chisnall, Director of English and Whole School Literacy, said:

“It is an accomplishment for our students to see their work in print and we are proud of the quality of our successful students’ expression, language and creativity in their writing.  We hope this inspires other young writers.”

Alongside a copy of the Mission Chaos book, which is also available to read in Wellacre’s library, each student received a certificate to mark their achievement and a limited edition bookmark.
