Primary Transition Day 2024

Welcoming Year 6 Pupils to Wellacre

We welcomed 322 local primary school pupils for Wellacre’s Primary Transition Day.

Year 6 pupils joined us from Woodhouse, Flixton, Urmston, Davyhulme, Acre Hall and Highfield primary schools on Friday 27th September. 

  

The children were accompanied throughout the day by a fantastic team of Wellacre students.  These students gave up their day off to attend and be on hand to support the transition process. Well done and thank you to: 

Alex, Ben, Billy, Blake, Charlie, Ellis, Harrison, Harry, Henry, Jarel, Jimmy, Joseph, Lachlan, Lucas, Luke, Morgan, Ollie, Olly, Richard, Sonny, Theodore, Tito and William, Year 7, Sonny, Year 8, and Calvin, Oliver and Theo, Year 11.

The annual event ensures boys and girls have the opportunity to experience the secondary school environment, and to participate in the KS3 curriculum as part of the transition from primary to secondary school.

We were delighted to receive positive feedback from the schools involved. Woodhouse primary school commented:

“We just wanted to share how grateful we were for the invite and to say thank you for organising it.  The whole day was really inspiring for my class and they all commented on how much better they felt about going to high school and how much it had eased some of their worries. Many of them do not have older siblings and being able to see pupils from our school clearly thriving at Wellacre, really helped them picture their future - thank you”.

    

Pupils had the opportunity to navigate around the school site and also experience a wide variety of curriculum activities. These included identifying plant life in the Eco Centre, cooking pizza toast in Food, writing about mythical beasts in English, bunsen burner safety in Science, playing curling and boccia ball in PE, and team-building activities with the CCF Navy unit. 

Mr Caslake, Director of Transition, said:

“The collective effort of staff, students and primary schools made the Primary Transition Day a huge success.  This bespoke day is an invaluable opportunity for Year 6 pupils to experience life and learning here at Wellacre, and without doubt, eases concerns about the move to high school.”

Mrs Sharrock, Principal, added:

“We are aware that Transition to secondary school can be daunting for some children and the additional taster day we offer every September to our local Year 6 children gives them a supported experience of secondary school life. They, along with their teachers, enjoy a range of curriculum experiences in learning spaces which are new to them: Laboratories, gyms, construction workshops, kitchens and the ecology centre were all utilised by primary classes on the day. We really enjoyed hosting and look forward to continued partnership working with our primary colleagues.”
