Hospitality Students Shine at Kimpton Clocktower Takeover Day

Year 10 Hospitality students enjoyed an unforgettable hands‑on experience during a special Hospitality Takeover Day at the Kimpton Clocktower Hotel in Manchester. The event, delivered in partnership with Manchester College, Trafford College, Dunsters Farm and Springboard, gave our boys the chance to explore the industry through a series of practical, engaging activity stations.

Students worked alongside Manchester College learners in a Food Design workshop, where they learned the art of sushi‑making. A familiar face was also part of the day: former Wellacre student Johnathan H, now representing Trafford College, supported the session and spoke proudly about his journey since leaving school.

The day continued with a Food Transportation activity led by Dunsters Farm, a Mocktails Masterclass delivered by Springboard, and up to three activity stations hosted by the Kimpton Clocktower team. From bed‑making to customer‑service challenges, the boys threw themselves into every task with enthusiasm.

Harry B summed up the mood perfectly, saying: “It was really good, I loved making the mocktails.”

Staff accompanying the group were equally impressed, praising the students’ attitude, teamwork and willingness to try new skills. One member of staff reflected on the visit with a smile, sharing that returning to the Kimpton always brings back fond memories of their own time working in the hospitality industry.

The boys represented Wellacre brilliantly throughout the day, gaining valuable insight into the diverse and exciting world of hospitality. Experiences like this not only build confidence but also open doors to future pathways in a thriving sector.
