University Pathways Project

Year 9 students have been involved in the Mission:HE programme, a 6-week higher education programme co-ordinated by Greater Manchester Higher and University of Bolton.

The programme is designed to raise the aspirations amongst young male students, offer an insight into higher education and inspire university ambitions.

Mr Duffy, Year 11 Progress Leader, said:

“The fun, engaging and interactive sessions have really given the students lots of informative information regarding their future careers pathways and how university could be a part of their future plans.”

The group of 12 students have participated in sessions, which combine information about post-16 pathways with team building, coaching, study skills and interactions with role-models and guest speakers.

Year 9 student Joshua said:

“I have really enjoyed the virtual sessions, which have been delivered by the University of Bolton. They have provided me with the opportunity to see how attainable university is for me. University was not something I had thought of as being a career pathway for me but now it is definitely something I want to explore further.”

The students were quizzed on all the knowledge acquired through a “Who Wants to be a Millionaire” style competition.  Year 9 student, Elliot, was the winner and received an Amazon voucher.
