The special prize draw celebrated Wellacre Academy welcoming pupils, parents and community members to our annual open event.

Wellacre Academy was a hive of activity, officially marking the start of yet another successful academic year and demonstrating our ‘Good’ Ofsted rating.

Wellacre’s Head Boy Harry Merrell and Principal Miss Melanie Wicks opened the event with a presentation to showcase exactly what families can expect when their son joins Year 7 in September 2018.

Prospective parents, carers and pupils toured the building, each department was buzzing with various activities, workshops and demonstrations.

Our team of Senior Prefects acted as tour guides, accompanying visitors around each room and answering each and every question.

Highlights included:

*  Visitors to the Maths ‘Break-Out’ room were tasked with a number of cryptic puzzles in order to escape!

*  In food technology, students helped bake and sample apple pies made with Wellacre’s very own crop from our Eco Centre

*  In History, visitors could “buy” rations from the 1940s shop complete with rations books and samples including SPAM!

Miss Wicks said: “We love every opportunity to open Wellacre’s doors to meet future pupils and their families and showcase why we’re so proud of what staff and students have to offer.”
