Wellacre’s Green from Grey Garden Design

Student Showcase at RHS Flower Show, Tatton Park

Wellacre was proud to showcase an incredible garden design at the 25th Anniversary of the RHS Flower Show Tatton Park in July 2024. 

Students participating in the P6 Co-Curricular Eco Centre activities have been instrumental in visualising and realising their garden design on the theme of ‘Green from Grey.’

This year's garden design was planned and grown from seed, bulb or plug in Wellacre’s Eco Centre during the Spring and Summer months to produce a colourful array of herbs and flowers including gloriosa daisies, amaranthus, Californian poppies and candy stripes!

The design featured an urban garden promoting ways in which to promote biodiversity and green living in even the greyest spaces. The ideas presented included vertical gardening to maximise space, mixed durable planting to ensure footfall, and healthy drainage to minimise flood risk caused by paving areas such as yards.

Thanks to the core team of Wellacre Eco Ambassadors involved in the planning and preparation of Wellacre’s RHS garden design through the Co-Curricular programme, as well as those students who visited Tatton Park for the ‘Dig Day’ to plant everything to bring our design to life:

Samuel CB, Deacon W and Liam K, Year 9, Charlie H, Conrad S, and Robert S, Year 10, and Maxim T and Max W, Year 11.  

Mr Toogood, Leader of Science, said:

“It was an honour to take part in the RHS Flower Show once again and our finished garden showcased all of our boys’ efforts in Wellacre’s thriving Eco Centre - they clearly love the time spent gardening and enjoying our outdoor spaces. We look forward to taking part in the Flower Show when it returns to Tatton Park in 2027.”

Wellacre will create a design for the next time the show is held at Tatton Park in 2027, when it will return to celebrate gardening in the North West. The new RHS tour programme means that the 2025 RHS Flower Show will be held at Wentworth Woodhouse in South Yorkshire, and the 2026 RHS Flower Show will be held at the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk.
