Play raises awareness of SMSC issues

In October, as part of Wellacre’s SMSC (Social, Moral, Spiritual and Cultural) programme, Year 9 watched a performance by Footlights Theatre called ‘Invisible.’

The play highlights the dangers of CSE (Child Sexual Exploitation) and Grooming, and supports Wellacre’s RESPECT curriculum.

Students watched four Footlights theatre company actors perform, before taking part in a discussion with the actors themselves about the issues raised in the play.  The visiting actors included Sean Ward, famous for TV roles in Coronation Street and Our Girl.

Mrs O’Neill, Leader of Humanities, said:

“This is a difficult topic, but students need to be aware of how to keep safe. This play highlights key issues and dangers, but in a relatable way.

“We’d like to thank the Footlights team for delivering a powerful performance, engaging Year 9 and raising awareness of serious issues affecting young people.”
