Wellacre Marks Student Success

The Governors and Principal, Miss Wicks, were delighted to welcome students, parents and carers to the annual Awards Evening on Monday 9th July.

The special evening celebrated the academic and sporting success of over 100 students across Years 7 to 10, and highlighted all the hard work, progress and achievements of all students.

The Awards Evening is in recognition of the effort and commitment made by staff and students every single day at Wellacre.

Principal Miss Wicks celebrated a diverse spread of academic, sporting, extra-curricular and charitable endeavours by students with the audience before moving on to the prizegiving.

Miss Wicks said:

“I’m immensely proud of the Wellacre prizewinners who demonstrate how successful we are as a school at producing well-rounded young citizens. Everyone is a credit to both Wellacre and their families. It just shows everyone is capable of achieving great things if they work hard enough.”

Award highlights included:

Principal Award – Leo, Year 10

As well as being voted as his form’s Student Council Representative, Leo was also successfully selected to be a member of the Executive Student Council and completed his training to become a Student Mental Health and Wellbeing Ambassador.  Leo has excelled in all his subjects and has the potential to leave Wellacre with outstanding GCSE results. Throughout his time in Year 9, Leo has demonstrated our core values and is a fantastic role model to all his peers.

Sports Personality of the Year - Joseph, Year 7

Joseph has represented the school across a number of sports; Football, Cross Country, Basketball and Athletics.  He has all the attributes and core values to be a successful sportsman. He has excelled across all sports; representing Manchester City at Football, qualifying for the Manchester Cross Country Championships and putting in some outstanding performances in Basketball.  Joe's attitude to sport is excellent and he shows the desire and resilience to go far in whatever sport he chooses.

Governor Inspirational Award – Jack, Year 9

Jack is an exemplary Wellacre student; with outstanding behaviour and over 350 achievement points he is a role model to other students.  Jack’s dedication and excellent commitment to learning shows in the progress he has made during Year 9. His creativity and poetry skills led to one of Jack’s poems being published by the famous poet – Levi Tafari.  He has been recognised by the Year 9 pastoral team as an inspiration to other Wellacre students.

Year 7 Outstanding Contribution - Adam

Adam received his award due to his excellent attitude to learning and school life. Many staff comment on his helpfulness and willingness to contribute to Wellacre life; he was referred to as a model pupil and the epitome of what a Wellacre boy should be.

Year 8 Outstanding Contribution – Edward

Edward has been a vital part of the Year 8 Student Leadership team, he upholds our core values and is one of our most professional Student Leaders.  He also took the lead role in our Christmas production of Oliver, putting in an outstanding performance. Edward is an Anti-Bullying Ambassador and has become a role model to all of his peers.

Year 9 Outstanding Contribution – Owen

Owen has excelled in the Accelerated Reader programme, which has led him to be one of the Academy’s Literacy Ambassadors.  He has also gone above and beyond to raise money for The Manchester Dogs trust by juggling for staff here at Wellacre and at Flixton Primary School.

Special thanks to students Christian, Year 7, and Joe, Year 9, who provided musical entertainment as well as Adam, Year 7, who provided a lively demonstration of his recent first dan black belt achievement in karate.   Well done to Year 9 Owen who continued his fundraising efforts for The Dogs Trust by juggling for parents in the canteen!
