At Wellacre, we celebrate our whole school commitment to students' Personal Development. Specifically, this is evident through the following;
The RESPECT Curriculum
RESPECT lessons are delivered each week to all students, Wednesday Period 1 and is our primary vehicle for taught Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE and Citizenship), alongside KS4 compulsory Religious and Wordviews Education (RWE) and tutor-led academic reviews and target setting. The statutory elements of Relationship, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) are covered within the RESPECT lessons.
Our RSE policy, including the parental right to withdraw from Sex Education, can be found in the policies section of the website.
Although primarily delivered by Achievement Tutors, the RESPECT curriculum is supplemented by visiting speakers and events, for example from The Northern (NHS Sexual Health) and School Nursing service.
Community Cohesion Day
Wellacre's annual Community Cohesion Day (affectionately nicknamed CoCo Day) is a 'drop down' off timetable day. When this day was first trialled over fifteen years ago, its main focus was to celebrate cultural diversity, but has grown to encompass activities focussing on themes of:

SMSC (Social, Moral, Spiritual, Cultural)
SMSC education is intrinsic to all that we do at Wellacre. SMSC learning is delivered through many aspects of school life, but primarily through:

* Visiting speakers and special events
* Assemblies
* Tutor time sessions, linking to key themes and awareness days
* Ensuring that our taught curriculum is representative in terms the places and people studied
SMSC at Wellacre is underpinned by both Wellacre and British Values (Mutual Respect, Democracy, Rule of Law, Tolerance and Individual Liberty).
Our Religious and Worldviews Education curriculum (RWE) is part of our Curriculum offer at KS3 (two lessons per fortnight), as a GCSE option and as a compulsory part of our RESPECT curriculum. Learning about the six major world religions is represented, alongside a study of key moral issues, and explicit teaching of non-religious worldviews. Through RWE, pupils are taught to respect others' beliefs, views and cultural differences, through the lens of 'Disagreeing Respectfully'.
Furthermore, our commitment to ensuring that students understand their rights under the Equality Act 2010, and their Protected Characteristics is re-visited throughout pupils' time at Wellacre, and we map where explicit teaching of Protected Characteristics takes place.
Wellacre enjoys a close relationship with our neighbour, St. John's Church, and we look forward to our annual Christmas Carol Service, which takes place in the Church, and solidifies our community ethos. Similarly, our annual Christmas 'Reverse Advent' appeal unites the school in a common cause that benefits those that need our collective help. Recent efforts have supported the Cyril Flint Befrienders and Little Green Sock project.
