 Digital Award for Daniel

Year 9 student, Daniel, has received a letter from Buckingham Palace to inform him of his success in achieving the Duke of York Inspiring Digital Enterprise Bronze Award (iDEA).

Daniel is part of the Co-Curricular Coding Club and during the weekly sessions, Wellacre students have been able to work on the digital award.

Daniel, said:

“It’s been interesting to learn new topics, such as cyber security, and complete interactive challenges to win points and achieve the Bronze award.  I’m now working towards the Silver award and planning to choose GCSE Computer Science.”

At the Co-Curricular Coding Club, as well as Year 8 and 9 students working on the iDEA, Year 7 students are learning a variety of new digital skills using, for example, the Scratch coding programme and the Kodu game design programme.

Miss Sherratt, said:

“The Coding Club invites students to explore computing and IT topics relevant to digital and working life.   Students develop digital, enterprise and employability skills and the iDEA recognises all their hard work - we’re proud to see Daniel achieve the award and look forward to seeing others follow suit!”

To earn the award, students learn skills and master new learning experiences online to gain various digital badges worth a number of points.  The practical activities include tasks from editing, e-commerce design, digital citizenship and e-safety.

The iDEA is a digital and enterprise version of The Duke of Edinburgh Award in which participants complete a series of challenges to achieve an award at Bronze, Silver or Gold level.
