Students were buzzing during Wellacre’s first Spelling Bee competition!

Teams represented their houses in the Year 7/8 and 9/10 events.

The Spelling Bee competition challenged contestants to spell a broad selection of words, with a varying degree of difficulty.

Students were called on in a round-robin format and took a turn at spelling STEM-themed words clearly and correctly, from magnitude to adiabatic.

In the second round, teams came together to confer on even more challenging words, in order to claim the victory.

The Year 7 and 8 competition winners were Pankhurst! Well done Joab, Daanish, Sam and Mason.

Mr Casey, Assistant Principal Behaviour for Learning, said:

“It was a tense competition, students performed really well and the standard was exceptionally high. Well done to all who took part.”

Year 8 Daanish added:

“It was really good to take part; my team were great and worked well together.  I’m really pleased Pankhurst won both competitions!”
