Former Students’ Dream Career Takes Off

With his sights set on the skies, Wellacre Alumni Adam, has shared the news that he has followed his dreams and been successfully recruited as Ryan Air cabin crew in the summer. 

Currently in his second year studying Level 3 Aviation Operations at Trafford College, Adam built up a portfolio of work-related learning and experiences in the aviation industry. He completed work experience at Barton Airport, followed by Signum Aviation, when he learned about flight planning. 

At college, there have been a variety of trips including Manchester Airport and Barcelona for work-related learning and airport tours.

He also worked at Axon Cleaner and made contacts for Easy Jet cabin crew as well as a Ryan Air pilot, which helped him explore career opportunities in the industry.

Throughout his time at Wellacre, Adam’s career aspiration was always to be a pilot and he has taken every opportunity to make this a reality.  He was unfortunately unsuccessful in an Aer Lingus pilot scheme application but the setback only made him more determined and he researched different routes into what is a challenging career to break into. 

Flying high on the success of his Ryan Air employment, Adam has shared his top tips to others chasing their dream jobs.

*  Building your CV is important. Get in as much experience as you can.  

*  Opportunities at school provide important leadership and teamwork employability skills. Adam was Head Boy, a Cadet leader and a Duke of Edinburgh participant.

*  Networking is really important.  Value every single person you meet as you never know who you might meet that can help you. Always be respectful, hardworking and make a good impression. 

*  Being proactive is key. Seek work experience and get out there to meet new people.

*  Have pride in yourself. Be the best version of yourself, look smart and remember first impressions count.

*  Always demonstrate resilience. Never give up on your dreams.  

Adam added:

“My last bit of advice is that students should work hard to achieve GCSEs at the highest level possible as it will open up doors later on in your career. 

“Do not just think about what you need for college entry grades, think beyond that as you might need higher grades later on.”
