Pride and Celebration at Wellacre on Results Day

Excellent Achievement for Wellacre Students 

Huge congratulations to all the students who collected their GCSE and Technical Award results this year. 

    

Students worked hard and showed tremendous resilience during their time at Wellacre. We are all so proud of everything they have achieved and share their excitement and optimism as they embark on wide ranging next steps.

The students were quick to acknowledge the excellent support they have had from a committed Wellacre staff and we, in turn, would like to thank all our parents and carers for working so willingly in partnership with us for the duration of the boys’ Wellacre journey. 

  

There are a number of students worthy of a special mention.  Former Wellacre Head Boy and Irlam Endowed pupil, Zane, led the way with an outstanding set of results including Grade 9 in Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Geography, Grade 8 in Religious Studies and English Language, and Grade 7 in English Literature. 

Zane was overwhelmed with his success. He said:

“I can’t believe it! The nerves kept building for today and I could not wait any longer to open my results. I’m most proud of all my 9s, but especially my 9 in Maths as it was unexpected.”

Zane will embark on A Levels in Physics, Maths and Chemistry at Urmston Grammar. As an excellent Student Leader and advocate for his peers, it is no surprise that Zane is aiming for a leadership role once again when Urmston seeks a new Head Boy!

    

Michael Carey joined Wellacre from Flixton Primary and achieved another strong set of results including Grade 9 in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and Computer Science, Grade 8 in English Language, Biology and History, and a Grade 6 in English Literature. 

Reflecting on his success, Michael said: 

“I tried not to be nervous about today and was hopeful for a 9 in Maths but the rest I was unsure about. Overall I’m really happy with all the 9s and 8s; I’m most proud of my Maths result because I was 6 marks off from achieving maximum points!”

Michael will be pursuing his love of Maths with A Levels in Maths and Further Maths, alongside Physics and Computer Science, at Urmston Grammar. 

Fellow former Flixton Primary pupil, Alex Donaldson, celebrated Grade 9 in Physics and Computer Science, Grade 8 in Maths, English Language and Biology, and Grade 7 in English Literature, Geography and Chemistry. 

Alex is looking forward to joining Urmston Grammar to study A Levels in Maths, Physics and Computer Science.

Alex said: 

“I was quite nervous as I needed a 7 in Maths today but I got an 8! It’s a big relief and I am really happy, especially about the 9s in Physics and Computer Science.

“It is going to be interesting going somewhere completely new and different. I was a Computing Ambassador at Wellacre and I’m excited to pursue my interest in Computing further.”

Joshua Sharpen, an old Acre Hall pupil, was extremely pleased with his results, receiving Grade 9 in English Literature, English Language and Computer Science, Grade 8 in Biology, Grade 7 in Maths, Physics and History, and Grade 6 in Chemistry.

Joshua will begin at Pendleton College in September and will study A Levels in Biology, Computer Science and Physics.

Joshua said:

“The nerves and the waiting around were to be expected but I’m really pleased now I’ve seen my results. I worked the hardest in Biology and achieved an 8 so I’m proud of that. 

“It will be a new experience at Pendleton and I’m looking forward to seeing where college takes me next!”

Former Wellacre Senior Prefect and Computing Ambassador, Tom Barton, joined Wellacre from Irlam Endowed Primary. He collected a fantastic set of results including Grade 9 in Computer Science, Grade 8 in Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Maths and Geography, and Grade 7 in English Literature and Language.

Tom said: 

“I’m very happy and proud to have achieved everything I needed; especially the 9 in Computer Science and the 8 in Chemistry, which I worked really hard for.”

Tom was part of the Wellacre team who won Best STEM Solution in North England 22/23 for their energy consumption and reduction App design.

He added:

“I will be studying Engineering at Manchester College; working on the STEM Cadet projects at Wellacre definitely inspired me in the subject.”

Mrs Sharrock, Principal, was delighted to see the students returning and the smiles on so many faces as the boys reflected on their significant achievement. She commented: 

“We are ambitious for what our boys can achieve and this year group has worked hard to realise those shared aspirations. Results across the school have improved on last year in so many areas and this is a reflection of the students’ willingness to commit the time and effort required to achieve well. We are incredibly proud of them. Thank you to their teachers and our support staff who have helped them along the way. 

“I hope the students will keep in touch and let us know how they are getting on in the rich and varied destinations they have chosen for next year. Well done to the Class of 2024 for their wider achievements at Wellacre, many of which can never be ‘graded’.”
