Year 11 Students Excel in Expedition

Year 11 Wellacre students have successfully completed their Silver Duke of Edinburgh (D of E) expedition in November.

The group has been working hard to prepare for their qualifying 4-day expedition with plenty of practice and an assessment 3-day expedition in September.

Pre-expedition training includes navigation and route-planning, map and compass skills, and campcraft.  However, the expedition relies on students working together as a team and the group pulled together to excel in the challenge.

Throughout the D of E programme, students are mentored and escorted by Mr Wise, Mr Asha and Mr Easdon, and evaluated by a D of E Accredited Assessor.

Mr Wise, said:

“Wellacre students showed great resilience and determination throughout their practice and qualifying expeditions and pulled together as a first class team. It is fantastic to see our students succeeding as part of the D of E programme, developing new skills and confidence.”

Congratulations to Luke, Joe, Sam, Leon, Matthew, Henry, Ethan, Tom and Drew in Year 11.

The full D of E award consists of four sections: volunteering, skills, physical and an expedition.  Now the expedition is complete, the students will now embark on the rest of the units. They will be undertaking voluntary work placements in the local community and around school, as well as completing a physical activity and learning a new skill.
