Annual Presentation Evening

Principal Mrs Sharrock, Head Boy Zane, Chair of the Governing Board Mr Young and Wellacre staff welcomed the class of 2023 alongside their families to celebrate all their school achievements. 

  

Head Boy Zane began the proceedings with a speech to congratulate and thank his predecessors. He said:

“Success is earned and everyone here should be proud of their achievements. I’d like to thank former Head Boy George and his team, their influence can still be felt around school today.”

  

The annual Presentation Evening celebrates the whole year group and honours individual success not only with their GCSE certificates but also for those excelling in a subject, discipline or a personal capacity. 

Principal Mrs Sharrock said:

“It is an honour to have the opportunity to reflect and celebrate everything this year group has accomplished and will go on to achieve.  

“The Class of 2023 benefited from the huge sense of community at Wellacre, bolstered by the Senior Prefect team who always advocated on behalf of all students, from the partnership between staff, families and students, and from the resilience they developed through testing times.”

Subject Awards were presented to students who either made the most progress in a subject, achieved the highest result in their year group or consistently went above and beyond in their subject.

Special Awards were given to those who made significant contributions to Wellacre or excelled in a particular field.  Nominees included:

    

Carrington Shield for excellent GCSE results - Mason Drummond

Outstanding Attendance Award for Excellent Attendance and Punctuality - Calum Attwood-Parry

Academic Excellence Award for Overall Academic Performance -Nicky Li

Sam Wilkinson Memorial Shield for Significant Achievement - Waqar Ahmed

David Murray Memorial Shield for Exceptional Effort - Shahmeer Mahmood

Daniel Spencer Shining Star Award for Resilience - Lucas Kelly

Melanie Wicks Personal Achievement Award - Lewis Jones

Eric Crosbie Award for Special Service to the Academy -  Anthony Jenkins 

Wilkinson Cowan Award for Numeracy Excellence - Zakaria Gasmi

Ansell and Bailey Award for Outstanding Design and Technology - Matthew Adams

Billy Molden Award for Inspirational Achievement - Nicholas Eves

Samuel Watkins Science Award for Excellence in Science - Matthew Swales

Ray Howell Award for Dedication and Commitment to Studies -Daniel Birkett

    

Year 11 Learning Director Award - Lewis Hinchy

Mr Duffy selected Lewis because he was an excellent and hardworking student who exemplified the Wellacre values.  He went above and beyond for the school in coaching the younger students’ rugby.  He has now joined the Parachute regiment having previously attended the Army Foundation College in Harrogate, and his Mum was proud to accept the award on his behalf. 

The Governor’s Award - The Ambassador Cup - Harrison Lamont

Chair of Governors, Mr Young, presented Harrison with the award for enhancing Wellacre’s reputation in the community, excelling in his role as Deputy Head Boy and being a key member of the Executive Student Council and Leadership team.

Principal’s Award - George Knowles

The Principal’s Award went to George for his outstanding contribution to Student Leadership and being an outstanding example to all in every aspect of school life.  As House Captain for Pankhurst and then Head Boy, George demonstrated leadership, vision and superb commitment. 

  

Mrs Sharrock added:

“Opportunities will be plentiful and we hope the Class of 2023 have the confidence to take hold of them.  We wish all our students the very best for the future.”
