Wellacre Students Strive for Leadership Award

At Wellacre, we champion student leadership opportunities through a variety of initiatives and activities, such as the Senior Prefect team, the Executive Council, Student Ambassadors for Mental Health and Being, Sport and Anti-Bullying.

In association with the SSAT (School, Students and Teachers Network) organisation, Wellacre provides an official student leadership accreditation. The training enables students to be recognised for the leadership skills, which they develop and share throughout the programme.

The award is delivered in three stages; bronze, silver and gold. Each stage aims to develop the students' understanding of leadership by focusing on areas such as responsibility, teamwork and presentation.

Year 8 students enjoyed the introductory session on 14th July and will spend an academic year working on the programme.  Year 9 students will complete their award from September, which they started this year (during a lockdown break.)

Mr Baker, Leader of Geography, said:

“Students really engage with the aims of the programme, and want to make a difference in our community by developing their skills.  I look forward to seeing the students' confidence and leadership capabilities grow. We hope to offer the SSAT Student Leadership Award to all year groups in the future.”

Year 8 Leon said:

“The introduction to the programme helped me to realise how much leadership I already do.”

Mrs Sharrock, Principal, was enthusiastic in her support; she said:

“Student leadership is a key element of what makes Wellacre such a thriving community. We want to develop confidence in our students so that they can influence others in a positive way and benefit the school and the wider community through their leadership.”
