The Great Science Share at Wellacre

A Year of Sharing Science Between Schools

The Great Science Share has culminated in a Science Fair at Wellacre for Year 4 and 5 pupils from Acre Hall, St. Monica’s and St. Michael’s primary schools. 

On 2nd July Wellacre Science Ambassadors, from Years 8, 9 and 10, hosted the Science Fair to present a series of investigations to their audience. 

  

The Science Fair investigations encouraged all our visitors to ask questions about our world, with a theme of sustainability and engineering experiments. 

  

Carter, Year 8, said:

“It was really fun to show the younger children how to do a scientific investigation and to see what scientific question they had been investigating”

    

The primary schools also exhibited and invited their fellow pupils to answer their investigation questions through experimentation -”which shape boat is the best icebreaker?”, “which boat will hold the most passengers?” and “what happens to sea creatures if the acidity of the oceans increases?”

  

Mrs Siddall, Assistant Leader of Science, said:

“The Great Science Share has been a fantastic series of activities throughout the year, supported by Wellacre’s Science Ambassadors. It has been  wonderful to see all the children involved questioning each other about the science investigations they have been conducting.”

    

As a lead school in the Great Science Share 2023/24, Wellacre has dedicated the past year in engaging local primary schools to inspire students to take the lead in asking, investigating and sharing scientific questions.

Previous events included the Crime Scene Investigation Challenge for Year 4 and 5 Trafford school children held at Wellacre, followed by the Great Glider Share activity which Wellacre delivered to Year 3 children at Acre Hall, St. Michael’s and St. Monica’s.
