Wellacre students explore Salford Quays for GCSE

On 23rd January, Year 11 Geography students visited locations around Salford Quays as part of their GCSE course.

All Year 11 GCSE Geography students travelled to Salford Quays to explore the area on foot and gather valuable data for their course.  Students visited the Imperial War Museum, MediaCity, the Watersports Centre and The Lowry to carry out data collection including traffic surveys, questionnaires and environmental quality surveys.

Student Courtney said:

“I really enjoyed this trip; the collection of  data will support our GCSE Geography fieldwork.”

The data collected by staff will be used to enhance learning and assist the geographers in answering the question “Has the regeneration of Salford Quays had an impact on the environment?”

Mrs Doolan, said:

“This is a subject area they will need to know and understand; they will need to evaluate this question for their GCSE paper 3 exam, so the experience and learning opportunity of fieldwork is invaluable.”

She added:

"I am proud of the commitment, enthusiasm and respect demonstrated towards the subject. They gathered vital information to support their GCSEs whilst demonstrating a positive relationship with the public. For some, this will be the start towards their career as a geographer.”
