Ambitious Plans for Wellacre’s Eco Centre

We have ambitious plans for the continued development of the Ecology Centre.  It is a hive of activity with Wellacre students, staff and the wider community utilising the centre as an excellent education and wellbeing resource.

Student involvement has been enthusiastic in several P6 groups and with their support wildflower seed has been sown for more areas and fruit trees have been cut back for winter.  Peas and beans have already been planted in the raised beds and students will be planting potatoes and onions; some of this produce will be cooked up by Duncan and Janet in our canteen!

The Site Team will be working on clearing and composting one of the raised beds and removing some of the algae from the pond.

Celine, Dolly, Betty, Mary and Doris, the Wellacre chickens, continue to thrive.  Staff donate funds for their daily fresh eggs.  The boys and staff tend to them gladly.

In order to continue the developments and improvements to the Eco Centre, we are looking for contributions to support student projects and there is now a voluntary contribution option in Arbor payments.  We would be really grateful if you were able to contribute and thank parents and carers for their donations so far.

Monies will be used for wooden framing for plants, seeds, canes, nets, plant pots, chicken feed, spades, trowels, compost, bulbs and plugs.

The Eco Centre is a hub for Science lessons and outdoor learning; co-curricular activities as part of Wellacre P6 programme; local primary school and community group environmental and STEM workshops; and staff mindfulness wellbeing.
