Wellacre’s Annual CoCo Day 2024

Community Cohesion at Wellacre

On Friday 5th July, Wellacre held our annual Community Cohesion Day (CoCo Day) for Year 7 to 9 students.

  

 

We launched this special day 14 years ago at Wellacre with a focus on cultural diversity, but over the years the day has grown to encompass a wide range of enriching opportunities on the themes of:

 

Community, Careers, Diversity, Citizenship, Politics, Health, Cultural Arts, Environment and Sustainability, PSHE and more.

  

 

We welcomed community visitors from local groups and businesses including BEX in Schools, HSBC Finance, Bangadrum Carnival, Lowry CAT Team andTrafford Domestic Abuse Services. 

The activities included drumming and dance with Bangadrum Carnival, music and movement with the Lowry CAT Team, student finance with BEX and HSBC, positive masculinity with Trafford Domestic Abuse Service and Wellacre’s own CCF Cadet and Forest School teams. 

  

Wellacre staff led students workshops including Kooth mental health and wellbeing strategies, the Christian Aid paper bag game to learn about poverty in India, British Heart Foundation Classroom RevivR CPR training and taster sessions in CCF command task.

  

Our visitors were impressed by the enthusiasm of our students.

“We are so proud of our students for embracing the different activities on offer. For many, they were out of their ‘comfort zone’ but gave it their all! It is wonderful to see them learn new skills and challenge themselves. There is always a really celebratory feel to the school on Community Cohesion Day, and this year was no different.”
