The competition, organised by the Trafford Music Service to showcase the talents of rockstar pupils, was open to bands with members under 18 and who live or attend school in the Trafford area.

Joe, Will and Oliver took to the stage as ‘Evolution’ performing hits including ‘I Believe in a Thing called Love’ by The Darkness, ‘American Idiot’ by Green Day and ‘Highway to Hell’ by AC/DC.  They competed against other bands to take the title at the competition held at the Claremont Centre, in Sale, on Saturday 2nd February.

As Evolution, Joe performed lead vocals and electric guitar, Will was on backing vocals and electric guitar and Oliver played the drums.  This is the second year they have entered the competition and they worked hard on their ‘battle’ performance.

Teacher of English, Mrs Chapman-Potter, was in the audience to see the boys perform and take the title.  She said:

“Joe, Will and Oliver were crowned the rockstar winners due to their fantastic showmanship and musical talent.  The judges commented that Joe was everything a rock front man should be, and that Oliver and Will smashed it on drums and guitar as well.

The boys clearly loved performing and had the best stage presence.  I was extremely proud of them and it was incredible to see them demonstrate such amazing talent.  I’m looking forward to seeing them rock out at the Band on the Wall!”

As regional finalists in the annual Battle of the Bands, Wellacre’s lucky winners will now have the opportunity to showcase their talents by competing in the Greater Manchester Music Hub Final at the legendary ‘Band on the Wall’ in Manchester on Sunday 10th February.

Joe said:

“This was our second year competing.  We came second last year, so it felt unreal to win this year!  The judges said that we had great musical talent for such a young age.”

Will said:

“We’re nervous about the final but we’re going to stick with the same set.  We’re going to add more backing vocals and make a few performance changes to improve our stage presence and sound even more.”

Good luck to Joe, Will and Oliver.
