The founder and editor of the best-selling United We Stand fanzine presented to an audience of Year 8 to 11 students who had expressed an interest in sport journalism.

Wellacre students heard about Andy’s life and career including establishing ‘United We Stand’ at aged 15, his journalism degree and the years spent interviewing over 500 famous football players, past and present, as a journalist for renowned news and magazine titles, as well as an author of 12 books.

Mr Chisnall, Director of English, said:

“Thanks toAndy Mitten for his insight into sports journalism with our students.  It was a great session and learning experience for our aspiring journalists.

“The students were captivated by Andy's stories from his travels related to football.  They were shown how great things can happen if you work hard and take opportunities that arise.  It helped students learn that a person can forge a career based on their passion.”

Charlie, Year 10, added:

“It was interesting to hear about Andy's extraordinary lifestyle and how he gets to travel the world and speak to famous footballers.”

Mrs Sharrock, Principal, added:

“Thank you to Andy for being so accommodating when invited into Wellacre to speak to students. He was brilliant at exemplifying how the school’s values have a relevance in adulthood and in his own journey and career. I look forward to Andy returning for the second instalment!”
