Wellacre Students Graduate from Teens and Toddlers

More than 250 young people and their families attended the Power2 Graduation and Awards ceremony for the North West, at Parrs Wood High School in East Didsbury on 6th March 2024.

The evening was held in recognition of the achievements of the Teens and Toddlers participants over the past academic year.

Wellacre students joined the event alongside their families, Mr Pemberton and Mrs Irwin to celebrate their achievements and receive certificates for their work in partnership with Delamere School, Flixton.

As part of the project, each student was paired with a child in a Reception class.  They shadowed them with the purpose of offering assistance, at lunchtime for example, or taking part in play sessions.  The weekly sessions also included working with the Power2 Programme team led by Nicola Carey. 

Well done to Sean and Ethan, Year 9, and Michael, Kenzie, Kai, Oliver, Jacob, Wasim, and Lucas, Year 10.

Mr Pemberton, Vice Principal, said:

“These students showed great determination and resilience, and built up strong relationships with their mentees at Delamere as well as the project leaders who worked with them at school. 

“Nicola Carey who worked with our students was really impressed with their contributions each week and how they developed their confidence and communication skills over the course of the project.”

The students involved in the Power 2 Teens and Toddlers Programme also received recognition from the link member of staff at Delamere school:

“Thank you so much for the past 14 weeks at Delamere School. Ladybird class have had such an amazing time with the boys from Wellacre and have asked when they're coming back. 

“The activities which looked at emotions really helped them. Some of our least confident children became so confident when the boys came to work with them. They also really enjoyed drawing their mentee and talking about what each other looked like and how they felt. The friendship between the mentee and the children was so lovely, seeing them grow together and for the mentees to get to know the children's needs.”
