Drew has been playing hockey since Year 7 after getting a taste for the sport in primary school.

Drew said:

“I played in an inter-school hockey competition and my teacher suggested I sign up for a club as I had really enjoyed it.”

For four years, Drew has been a member of Urmston Hockey Club and trains and plays in games weekly.  There were three rounds of trials for the Manchester squad before Drew achieved the selection; Drew now also trains and plays in county games every three weeks with his new team.

Drew added:

“I love hockey because it’s so different to the usual sports like football; it’s great for improving agility and quick-thinking on the field.  It also supports my BTEC Sport because I can relate to and understand the theory because of the experience of playing hockey and being part of a team.

“I was really happy to be picked for the county team and I had a really good first game! It’s a great opportunity to have the chance to play for the Performance Centre or England in the future.”
