Transition Event for New Students

During the Summer, Wellacre welcomed our new Year 7 students in for a week-long transition event from the 29th July.

The Summer School is an important part of Wellacre’s transition programme to help ease the move from primary to secondary school for these students and to provide an opportunity for them to make new friends, learn their way around Wellacre and to help boost their confidence ahead of the September start.

The week offered a jam-packed timetable of activities including a football academy, a Combined Cadet Forces session, a musical theatre workshop and novel writing lesson.  Students also joined forces in their respective Houses - Turing, Lowry and Pankhurst - to compete in House events including basketball and football competitions. A specially devised obstacle and orienteering task helped students navigate their way around the whole school building.

Mrs Birney, Inclusion Manager, said:

“Students thoroughly enjoyed the week of activities, which gave them a real flavour of life at the Wellacre.  They learned great team working as well as a range of new skills; it was fantastic to see their confidence grow throughout the week!”

The week culminated in a Graduation Ceremony;  parents and carers were invited to join the occasion and celebrate the success of all Summer School students.

We were proud of the House heros who were selected based on those students who stood out for displaying Wellacre's core values.  Well done to:

Turing - Daniel

Lowry - Owen

Pankhurst - Jake

The most anticipated news of the week was also announced at the ceremony - the winner of the Summer School House competition.  Pankhurst were crowned the winners to a mighty cheer!

Max, Year 7, said:

“I felt nervous about starting Year 7 but I made new friends at Summer School, practised how to get to school and found my way around the building.  I felt much more confident; I'm so glad I signed up!”
