The Combined Cadet Force spent an action‑packed weekend at Altcar Training Camp, home of the Reserve Forces and Cadet Association, for their annual Summer Camp focused on leadership, resilience and personal development.

Across the weekend, Junior Leaders were immersed in a programme built around the core values of Communication, Courage, Discipline, Leadership and Physical Training, each activity designed to stretch their skills and strengthen their confidence.

Cadets trained on the Dismounted Close Quarter Combat Trainer (DCCT), an advanced indoor rifle range that allows young people to safely develop marksmanship and weapon‑handling skills. They also took part in orienteering, navigating challenging terrain under time pressure, and completed a Cadet Field Gun run, a demanding Royal Navy tradition requiring teamwork, precision and determination.

One of the toughest tasks came away from the field: each cadet was required to deliver a 5–7 minute presentation in front of their peers, a test of confidence, communication and leadership under pressure.

Lt Baker praised the group’s maturity and commitment throughout the weekend.

“The cadets really impressed me, especially with the fantastic 5–7 minute presentations. It takes a lot of courage to stand up in front of your peer group.”

Cadet Rowan reflected on the experience with enthusiasm, highlighting the DCCT as a standout moment:

“I really enjoyed the DCCT and getting to fire a rifle.”

The weekend showcased the very best of CCF training, challenge, growth and camaraderie, leaving cadets inspired and ready for the next step in their leadership journey.
