Wellacre Students Travel to Liverpool

On 4th December, Wellacre’s Royal Navy Combined Cadet Force joined other cadet units from across the North West for an incredible opportunity to step aboard the HMS Prince of Wales. 

With a flight deck spanning 70 meters in width and 280 meters in length, the formidable warship docked in Liverpool for an 8-day stay before welcoming 20,000 visitors!

The experience offered them a unique, behind the scenes look at life onboard a military ship. The students toured various parts of the ship, including the mess, cabins, hangar, and flight deck, gaining valuable insights into the daily operations of one of the most advanced warships in the world.

Cadets met some of the 800-strong personnel team from different branches of the Navy, including the Marines, submarine service, physical training team, meteorological service, and the medical corps. The students were able to ask questions and learn firsthand about the diverse roles and responsibilities required to keep the ship running smoothly and efficiently.

Lt Baker said:

“This was a fantastic opportunity for all cadets to explore a warship and gain a first-hand understanding of military life and a deeper understanding of the wide range of career paths and roles it offers.

For some students, the experience was especially inspiring for those considering a career in the military.

Year 10 Joe added:

“I am looking at joining the forces as an engineer. It was an amazing experience to see what I might need to do to pursue this career, and it has inspired me to look more into joining up.”
