The University of Manchester invited Wellacre students to take part in an exciting and interactive Festival of Chemistry on 7th June.

Year 8 students, Adam, Daniel, Oliver and Jacob, participated in a full day of activities to encourage enthusiastic young people to engage in hands-on science.

Students began the day of fun, practical Chemistry with a competitive challenge.  They were tasked with identifying a prime suspect by investigating a ‘crime scene’ by conducting a series of chemical reaction experiments.

The second practical laboratory investigation was the University Challenge, which asked students to create the most rainbows in their team by investigating the density of colours in liquid form.

All the students from the participating schools then enjoyed a ‘Flash Bang’ demonstration, which included a fun and colourful chemistry lecture followed by a pops and bang chemical show.
