Wellacre Joins the Soccer Aid Team

On Monday 24th June, Wellacre’s Mental Health Ambassadors joined forces with Soccer Aid for UNICEF to fundraise for the charity as well as raise awareness of how sport has a positive impact upon mental health.

In conjunction with F2 Freestylers and Soccer Aid, Year 9 students Abel, Nic, Will and Jack hosted the Playground Challenge event, which will be followed by another event in September.

For £1, students faced a multi-station football obstacle course, with all proceeds raised by Wellacre students being matched by UNICEF.  The total raised so far by Wellacre students and staff was £50.

Starting on Friday 14th June, Soccer Aid for UNICEF Playground Challenges took place up and down the country, and on Sunday 16th, a big celebrity football match was broadcast on ITV.

Through the Playground Challenge, Soccer Aid for UNICEF raises money to protect children in danger around the world and to help make sure they grow up healthy, happy and safe.  Every child should have a childhood full of play, fun, learning and laughter and by taking part in the Playground Challenge, we can show we’re all on the same team.

Mr Cameron, Teacher of PE, said:

“I am extremely proud of the efforts made by the Year 9 students in organising and marketing the Playground Challenge event.  This is part of their ongoing campaign for student wellbeing; they are fantastic ambassadors for the school’s ‘healthy body, healthy mind’ ethos.”
