Students Deliver Bronze Award STEM Project

Wellacre students were celebrated at the EDT Industrial Cadets graduation ceremony, held at the University of Liverpool, on 26th June.  The event celebrated student success from the 5-week STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) challenge. 

The Year 9 team of Wellacre students included Harry, Oliver C, Oliver S, Taylor, and George.  They were challenged to plan and design a model for a sustainable and eco-friendly theme park.

As part of the project, the team was assigned an industry mentor from Luxfer, who assisted in the work-related learning. As well as working alongside Luxfer at Wellacre, the students were also invited to visit the head office to learn more about developing their professional skills and how studying STEM subjects can lead to a rewarding career.

At the event in Liverpool, students presented their ideas to other schools, met EDT judges to answer their questions and received their Industrial Cadets Bronze participation certificate and badges. 

The feedback for the team’s design titled ‘Wellacre’s Wonderful World’ offered much praise for their hard work, creativity, professionalism, problem-solving, teamwork and unique presentation.

The judges said:

“Wellacre’s presentation became an almost immersive experience in which the students actually took us on the rides they had designed – we thought this was fantastic! Wellacre you should be extremely proud of yourselves for this piece of work!”
