KS3 Work Experience Opportunity

Years 7, 8 and 9 Join the World of Work

Key Stage 3 students were invited to experience the world of work with a one-day placement with a family member.

Two thirds of Year 7, 8 and 9 engaged in a wide variety of exciting and rewarding work placements, with many gaining hands-on experience and skills. 

All other students remained in school and explored career related learning in lessons.

Hospitality, education, engineering, healthcare, and e-commerce were some of the industries experienced by Wellacre students. 

Many students shared their experiences of the day with local businesses and organisations:

Sonny, Yr 7 - Phix Clothing: Sonny learnt all about the running of an e-commerce business and enjoyed using Shopify to look into the website and sales analytics. He also completed several general admin tasks including spreadsheets and emails.

Max, Yr 7 - Restaurant Örme: Max helped out with food preparation for the restaurant.

Ethan & Jacob, Yr 7 - P Delaney Digital: During the day the boys learned all about SEO (Search Engine Optimisation.).

Matthew, Yr 7 - Partington Central Academy: Matthew worked in a Year 2 class for the day and took part in a range of activities from reading to the children and supporting the children with their work. He was a big hit with the children! 

Isaac, Yr 8 - University of Salford: Isaac visited the Media City building and helped set up a TV studio for a graduation ceremony, learned about chromakey and had a go at reading a weather report.

Corey and Jacob, Yr 8 - NSS Testing Ltd: Both boys worked really hard building a guard rail, learning about all the height safety equipment and having a go at using it. Staff were also really impressed with their exemplary behaviour and they have been invited back during the summer holidays.

Noah, Yr 8, Salford City Academy: Noah got hands on shadowing a Technology Technician in school.

Dylan, Yr 8 - Trafford Council: Dylan helped assess a planning application regarding an extension to a property in Altrincham and reviewed the refurbishment of sash windows to a Listed Building.

Laurie, Yr 9 - Manchester NHS Foundation Trust: Laurie learnt about Microsoft’s latest AI tool (called CopIlot), which  the hospital trust are currently trialling and used it to write his own article ‘How to build muscle as a 14 year old’. He also had a tour of the hospital trust’s server room (which serves 25,000+ devices!). To his credit, colleagues commented on what a bright and polite young man he is.

Yr 9 Noah T - pre-handover test of a 24hr prescription dispensing kiosk.

Yr 9 Isaac J - Rochdale Infirmary: Isaac’s induction included a tour of the hospital and talking to different professionals about their careers  He also visited a dementia ward and urgent treatment centre. He learned several medical techniques including applying a dressing and bandage and taking a blood pressure.

Yr 9 Noah M - Salford City Council: Noah spent the day shadowing the Head of Engineering and Landscape Design at the council. 

Mr Duffy, Leader of CEAIG, said:

“We are so proud of our Key Stage 3 students for their amazing achievements during their work experience placements. Their enthusiasm really stood out.  This experience has given our students valuable insight and hopefully boosted their confidence as they think about their future careers. Well done to all our students; we can’t wait to see what they accomplish next!”
