An Insight Into the Future

On Friday 8th March, Wellacre’s Career Week culminated in a Careers Fair for students from Year 7 to 11.

Wellacre’s annual Careers Fair is a valuable opportunity for students to meet employers, training and further education providers.  With a broad range of exhibitors providing a information, advice and guidance, Wellacre students are empowered to make informed choices regarding their own future career path.

Mr Duffy, Head of Year 11 and Director of Futures, said:

“The aim of the Careers Fair is to inspire and encourage students to think about life after Wellacre.  The range of exhibitors presents an opportunity for one-to-one conversations about diverse education and career pathways.

“Students came away with new ideas, an insight into GCSE options for specific pathways, and a   positivity about the potential for their Post-16 futures.”

One Year 7 parent contacted Wellacre to report:

“My son was really happy with the Careers Fair; he came home buzzing! The Careers Fair is a great experience and and opportunity for the boys.”

Exhibitors included: Unilever, Trafford College, Xaverian, Salford College, GM Higher, Future Works, the Army, Edge Hill University, Liverpool John Moores University, Access Creative, Trafford Council, Stegta and The Growth Company.

Exhibitor feedback was extremely positive.  Nicola Burke, from Trafford College, said:

“The boys were amazing and so polite.  They asked some really good questions and all showed a real interest in the event.”

Mr Duffy added:

“Exhibitors were all really impressed with how our boys conducted themselves, the range of questions asked and the interest shown. They we impressed with how forward thinking Wellacre boys are with regards to taking an interest in their future so early on; especially the Year 7 and 8 students.”

Following the event, students commented on the experience:

Year 9 Samuel said:

“It was very informative and I enjoyed the maturity of the conversations.”

Year 9 Nathan said:

“This has helped me increase my positive views on my GCSE choices and has inspired me to do new things.”

“It showed my various opportunities and opened up another world I had never thought about before.”

Year 7 Charlie said:

“I liked my experience at the Careers Fair because it has really improved the thoughts of my future.”
