Significant Investment for Hospitality and Catering

Investment Secured New Food Room

In a significant boost to hospitality and catering education at Wellacre, we are delighted to have secured a £20,000 grant from the Savoy Educational Trust.

The funding will support the refurbishment of Wellacre’s current food and cookery provisions including flooring, fixed furniture, equipment and decoration.

The developments will allow a more effective use of space for Key Stage 3 and 4 classes.  It will also enable Wellacre to introduce a new Level 2 Hospitality and Catering qualification in September 2024. 

As part of Wellacre’s commitment to the ongoing development of our hospitality and catering, we have pledged to continue to provide meaningful careers education and encounters as part of the curriculum, for example:

*  We engage proactively with external providers (hospitality employers and educational providers such as FE colleges);

*  We encourage students to learn more about hospitality careers through organisations, such as Springboard;

*  We encourage students to enter Springboard’s annual competitions to develop knowledge and skills at home - FutureChef (Yr 9-11 pupils) and/or FutureChef Jnrs (for Yr 7-8 pupils); and 

*  We encourage Wellacre staff to undertake CPD with organisations, such as The Food Teachers Centre.

Mrs Bentley, Leader of Design Technology, Food and Art, said:

“I am over the moon with the success of the grant, which will enable us to make the impact on the department we have been striving for. I look forward to unveiling the new hospitality and catering provision in September and seeing the uplift in both student learning and engagement.”
