WELLACRE - Sports Day 2017

Fantastic day of Sporting success, fun and achievement!

WELLACRE enjoyed our ever popular annual Sports Day in June.

Initial poor weather concerns passed unnoticed as our students began to congregate on our sports fields to enjoy the music and community atmosphere of our event. Celebrations grew further as the sunlight and warmth broke through the overhead clouds, providing a fantastic setting for an afternoon of sporting success, fun and achievement.

Our student body was divided across year groups into countries, France, New Zealand, China, Australia and Nigeria with each country representing a colour ring of the Olympic emblem.

As preparation, each country ably supported by school tutors, discussed and decided upon their best athletes to put forward for the various events. The behaviour and attitude of all students was exceptional, especially those taking part who performed with pride and proved themselves excellent ambassadors for WELLACRE.

Sprints and longer distance races for each year group were interspersed with the Egg & Spoon Race and our ever popular Mascot Races, creating an easy blend of competition and fun. All races were timed and scored with a number of students equaling or breaking their personal best. Scores for each finishing position were collected helping to add excitement and heighten anticipation throughout the afternoon, building to the final series of deciding relay races.

Whilst the final scores were totalled and before the overall winner was announced, our staff lined up for their Staff Sprint! Mr Glover, Leader of PE faced good competition but once again proved a worthy winner as he retained his ‘Fastest in School’ title!

Congratulations to our overall winners - NEW ZEALAND!

Congratulations also to all who took part and huge thanks to all students and staff. Your support, cheers and laughter helped to make this another memorable and fantastic event.
