An Inspiring Introduction to Wellacre

Wellacre’s Primary Day took place on 24th September, with over 250 Year 6 pupils receiving a warm Wellacre welcome from Mrs Sharrock as they joined the transition event from local primary schools.

Year 6 boys and girls from Urmston, Flixton, Highfield, Woodhouse, St Michael’s and Acre Hall primary schools attended the Primary Day for an inspiring introduction to Wellacre.

The annual event marks the beginning of a series of educational events throughout the year to support the transition between primary and secondary school.

The aim of Primary Day is to provide Year 6 students from our local Primary schools with an exciting opportunity to experience life and lessons at secondary school, and to help settle any concerns about the transition from primary school.

Wellacre’s Primary Day is specially tailored to be an enjoyable and exciting introduction to the school and learning environment. The pupils experienced a flavour of core subjects as well as extra-curricular opportunities, met Wellacre staff and students, and navigated the school building.

Curriculum sessions included Vile Victorians in English, tchoukball in PE, lab safety in Science, 2D design in Technology, Egyptian-themed maths and JamPod drumming in Music.  Pupils also took part in several of Wellacre’s P6 Co-Curricular activities such as Japanese culture and mindfulness, debating and politics, and Navy cadet training.

All pupils received certificates for their exceptional efforts throughout the day; Acre Hall pupils were presented theirs in a school assembly!

Mr Thomson, Wellacre’s Director of Transition, said:

“We would like to thank all primary schools, teachers and students for their enthusiastic participation and for helping to make this such a rewarding day!  We are really keen to continue to strengthen our community partnerships.

“Thanks also to our Senior Leadership team led by Head Boy, Adam, and Senior Deputy Head Boy, Christian, who supported the day and joined pupils in their sessions.”
