Year 10 and 11 Study Human Geography

In December, Year 10 and 11 GCSE Geography students visited MediaCity in Salford Quays to explore the area and undertake fieldwork accompanied by Mr Baker and Mrs Doolan.

In class, students are studying Human Geography and the fieldwork trip will support this classwork.   Human Geography is the branch that studies spatial relationships between human communities, cultures, economies, and their interactions with the environment.

The visit to Salford Quays offered students an opportunity to look at the changes the area has experienced over the last 40 years. Students were tasked with investigating whether the regeneration was sustainable, and what still remains to be done to improve the area.

Mr Baker, Leader of Geography, said:

“It's great to get out into the field to bring lesson learning to life. Nothing compares to being in an environment and learning from elements that students can see and touch.”

Charlie, Year 11, added:

“It was good to see what my teacher has been talking about in lessons. It helped me to understand sustainability in a different way.”
