We were proud to welcome back Wellacre alumni Henry, Finlay and former Head Boy, Alfie, for a Year 11 Careers assembly.

Mr Duffy, Year 11 Progress Leader and Leader of CEAIG, said:

“It was fantastic to see our former students again and to see how they have flourished in their chosen pathway.  It is great to see their ambition and hear their plans for the future.  We hope this inspires our current Year 11s.”

The former students are now in Year 13 at Ashton-on-Mersey (AOM) School studying the BTEC Extended Diploma in Sport and Coaching and each secured a place on the prestigious Football Scholarship Programme.

Finlay said:

“The technology we use as part of our course gives us a competitive edge; we wear GPS tracking vests and cameras for match analysis. It’s great to be able to review our performance and player stats, such as sprint distance and power plays.”

Henry added:

“We have training three times a week as well as a match, and we’re striving for constant improvement in our performance.  When we get our player stats through, everyone wants to be the top player!”

Mr Henderson, AOM Course Leader, discussed the post sixth form opportunities including scholarships in America and semi-professional football careers.

Former Head Boy Alfie said:

“The goal is to see how far we can go in football! As well as opportunities with multiple football clubs, we could travel to America to train when we finish or go on to university for courses in Sport, Sport Science or PE.”

We are proud of the progress the students are making and the excellent outcomes achieved in Year 11 at Wellacre, which provided them with a platform to pursue their next steps.
