The Northern Holocaust Education Group’s aim is to pass on the life stories and experiences of the victims of Nazi persecution and the Holocaust so that they are not forgotten or denied.

Caroline Slifkin engaged the group of 25 students in an art-based project, which furthered their understanding of the impact of the Holocaust through testimonies of survivors and their families.

Caroline says:

"Learning about the Holocaust can evoke powerful emotions, and using the creative arts can help students to express their thoughts, ideas and responses in a good and creative way."

Students were invited to discuss historical artwork and to create their own works in response.  They explored Hannah' Goldstone’s grandpa's Kindertransport story and looked at the complex topic of Liberation expressed through art by Holocaust survivors, liberators & war artists.

Mr Harris, Leader of History and RWE, said:

“It was an engaging and impactful session and all students and staff were inspired to develop our understanding even further. This project will lead into, and support, a P6 Holocaust project that will begin in January.”
