Year 7 Daniel Supports Cornerstones Charity

by Daniel Craven, Year 7

In May, Daniel took part in  “The Big Sleep Out.” The event involved sleeping in a cardboard box all night, to raise money for the homeless charity Cornerstones, based in Manchester.

Daniel, from form 7P, is a member of St. Monica’s Impact Group which staged the event.  This is a group of young people who want to make a difference within their community.

Daniel said:

“It was a freezing cold Saturday night in May. To fully experience what homeless people sleeping rough go through, we decided not to have any technology with us (like mobile phones) just cardboard and sleeping bags.

We all made different-shaped shelters using the cardboard, trying to ensure there were no gaps so it would insulate us. Thankfully it only rained for a few minutes in the night but the cardboard made it sound like hailstones!”

Daniel and his friends raised over £1,100 and all agreed that even though it was really cold and uncomfortable they would all do it again for Cornerstones as it made them appreciate what people living on the streets go through every night, not just one Saturday night in May!
