School Games Silver Mark Award

Wellacre Awarded Recognition for Student Engagement in Sport and Competition

We are delighted to announce that Wellacre has achieved the School Games Silver Mark Award for the 2023/24 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success. 

Wellacre’s sporting achievements include:

*  The Year 7 Rugby Team won the Salford/Trafford Rugby League title

*  The Year 7 Football team reached the last 64 of hundreds of entrants in the English Schools Cup

*  The Year 8 and the combined Y9/10 Swimming teams came runners up in their respective Trafford Swimming Galas  

*  The Year 10 Football made it to the semi-final of the Trafford Cup and came runners up in the Trafford Division 1

*  George, Jack, Yr 10, and Solomon, Yr 9, were invited to join the North West Cricket Academy

*  Yr 8 Joe won the Shot Put at the Trafford Schools Athletics

Wellacre students have the opportunity to compete in local both inter-school and House sporting competitions including Basketball, Inter-Form Football, Table Tennis and Sports Day. 

We are extremely proud of our students for their dedication to all aspects of school sport, including Wellacre’s Sport Leaders who officiate at Trafford primary school events and inspire others to engage in sport.

As part of Wellacre’s application, we were asked to fulfil areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work and dedication of everyone at our school has been rewarded

“We are proud of all the students that represent Wellacre brilliantly in intra and inter-school competitions. At Wellacre, our aim is to provide inclusive opportunities for students to compete and lead, to develop confidence, increase participation, build social skills and create positive experiences for all. 

“Thank you to staff who have given up their time to run lunch and after school clubs, and attend competitive events. We hope to build on this success in the future.”

Mrs Sharrock, Principal, added:

“Participation in sport has significant benefits for all. We remain committed to creating excellent opportunities for all students to join in, at whatever level, and enjoy feeling healthier and happier as a result.”
