Year 8 learn about local history

To finish the Spring term, all of Year 8 enjoyed the opportunity to explore Irlam Locks with a learning walk around the local area.

Accompanied by the Humanities team, students carried out research to support their history studies.  In lessons, students are learning about how the Manchester Ship Canal has impacted our local area.

Mrs O’Neill, Leader of Humanities, said:

“This annual trip is a fantastic opportunity for students to understand that an important part of industrial and engineering history is right on our doorstep.”

Year 8 student, Joseph, said:

“I cross Irlam Locks every day, but I had never thought about the history of the canal before.  It was interesting to find out more about our local history."
