Employer Engagement Opportunity

Year 10 students embraced Wellacre’s annual Work Experience opportunity, spending a week in a variety of industry sectors.

Work experience is an exciting way to gain inspiration, try career pathways, learn new skills and discover strengths, values, motivations and interests. 

Local businesses welcomed students for a week of valuable workplace learning and an insight into the world of work.

Mr Duffy, Leader of CEAIG, said:

“This is such a beneficial opportunity for our students to experience the world of work, with the aim of developing students’ employability and interpersonal skills.  

“Overall, employer feedback about our students’ efforts was lovely to see and really shows how professional and committed our students are.”

We are pleased to share the following student experiences:

Jack, Cedar Mount Academy: Jack was involved in PE lessons across Year 7-10 as well as induction lessons for Years 5/6. He received a glowing reference about his enthusiasm, mature and positive attitude, and for being an excellent role model. 

Hangaw, Wellacre PE Department: Hangaw helped in PE lessons throughout the week and also took part in sessions for Wellacre’s New Intake Day, welcoming new students and ensuring they enjoyed the quick cricket and handball.

Sam, Marlowe Fire and Security: Marlowe said it had been a pleasure to work with Sam; he spent the week with the Systems and Integration Team, learning about the Marlowe and the wider companies that make up the business.

Ethan, Primary Schools: Ethan visited various primary schools during the week and helped out the PE coaches.

Cameron, Pets at Home: Cameron learned a lot about life at work during his week at Pets at Home. 

Adam, Sale Leisure Centre: Adam did first aid training, new staff training and helped testing the PH levels of the pool as part of his work experience.

Ciaran and Alex, Wellacre Marketing and Communications:  The pair experienced a wide range of media and marketing briefs through the week.  They assisted Mrs Quinn with web content, social media campaigns, photography and creating marketing materials. 

Rio, Manchester Dog Kennels: It was a hands-on week for Rio helping to care for and entertain the kennel’s residents.

Isaak, West Pennine Trucks: Isaak spent the week under the bonnet of several trucks, assisting in mechanics and maintenance work.

Principal Mrs Sharrock, said:

“Whatever job the boys tried, I hope they learned more about themselves and working life through the experience.”
