Remembrance at Wellacre 2024

Wellacre joined the community to honour Remembrance 2024, with the school’s CCF cadet unit leading the activities. 

On Sunday 10th November, 22 cadets represented Wellacre at the Urmston Remembrance parade. SSI Ward was Parade Marshall once again and accompanied the cadets on the day.  

Senior Wellacre cadets played a significant role with PO Bradley leading the contingent with the CCF Standard, Leading Hand Jud laying the wreath at the Davyhulme Cenotaph and Leading Hands Oliver and Evan also took charge of the contingent throughout the parade. 

We observed Armistice Day at Wellacre with a parade and two-minute silence led by Wellacre’s CCF cadet unit. 

SSI Ward, Lt Baker and SLt Harvey were in attendance and Leading Hand Nate honourably led the cadet parade, brought everyone to attention and read the Act of Remembrance.

Students were invited to attend in any service uniform from units they attend outside of school; thanks to those who represented the Air Cadets and Sea Cadets.

We welcome De Brook Lodge care home residents for the service and SSI Ward was honoured, in particular, to meet a 101 year-old veteran who brought his sign-up papers to show our cadets.

SSI Ward said:

“Thanks to all the cadets who spent the week supporting the Royal Legion’s Poppy Appeal and selling poppies, badges and other merchandise in Tutor Time, and also to those who dedicated time to practice marching and command drills in preparation for Remembrance.” 

Mrs Sharrock, Principal, said:

“Once again the CCF have made a wonderful contribution to a significant community event. Well done to them all.”
