Wellacre’s Brilliant Club Scholars Graduate

Year 7 and 8 Students Graduate at University of Manchester

The work of Year 7 and 8 students was celebrated at a Brilliant Club graduation ceremony at the University of Manchester on 19th June. 

Year 7 students Luis, Ollie, Sam, Mason, James, George and Matthew, alongside Year 8 students Adam, Shuja, Jacob, Charlie, Brady, Max and Harry travelled into Manchester for the event to mark the end of The Scholars Programme. 

Upon arrival, the group enjoyed a tour of the university grounds and met university under-graduate students before preparing for their graduation. 

Mason and Brady were invited to be Spoke-Scholar and speak to the audience about their Brilliant Club experience.  

   

Mason said:

“The Brilliant Club has given me the courage to write extended pieces, which I didn't think I could do before. It has also broadened my horizons about higher education. Taking part in this programme will help me in the future.”

As part of the university programme this year, Wellacre’s scholars have attended weekly tutorials in the Spring term with Mr Lathuras, a PhD Tutor, on the assignment entitled "We Count: Can You Shape Your City?" Students studied how our villages, towns and cities could be reimagined to accommodate more people and their needs, yet with less impact on the planet.

Each scholar worked towards completing a challenging final assignment, which was marked and moderated using university grades.

Our young students performed exceptionally well with Year 7’s Matthew, George, Mason, and Year 8 Harry achieving a 1st, and everyone else scoring a 2:1.
