Year 6 Transition 2021/22

Welcome to all our new students and their families

We appreciate that the transition from primary to secondary school can be daunting for some. In addition, the lack of access to Transition activities at Wellacre has been difficult. However, we have every confidence that our new starters will settle into new routines quickly.  Last year, in equally challenging circumstances, our new students and their families were overwhelmingly positive about the strength of our Transition process.

Feedback from Y7 Parents’ Evening (Oct 2020) demonstrated very high levels of satisfaction:

*    98% of parents and carers agreed that their son had settled in well

*    98% of parents and carers agreed that their son felt safe

*    96% of parents and carers agreed that the  transition process prepared their son well for Year 7

Comments included:

"I am very impressed with the school’s approach to the new intake and my son has felt both safe and secure. He has settled in so well under the circumstances, so much appreciation to the staff for their hard work during this time. My son has just taken to his new daily routine with ease and that’s all thanks to the staff. He’s been made to feel comfortable and understands what is expected of him."

"Great start to the year, we’ve been informed along the way and I feel that if we do have any issues then we know who to contact. Everyone has been brilliant. Thank you."

"Happy we made the right choice of school.  Thank you for helping my son settle in so well."

"I think the school has done really well at making my son feel welcome and safe. I really appreciate all your efforts on this. Thank you."

Principal, Mrs Sharrock, and the whole Wellacre community are looking forward to welcoming all our new starters to the Wellacre family.

Opportunities as a Year 7 Student

As a Year 7, we hope students find their time at Wellacre valuable, enjoyable and rewarding.  We provide a wealth of opportunities for students to embrace in order to enrich their learning and encourage them to develop skills and experiences both in and outside of school.

Our Co Curricular Wednesday afternoon will be their first opportunity to broaden their skills and experiences. Our vision is to provide successful and meaningful opportunities for ALL students that;

*   Enhance ‘cultural capital’

*   Contribute to our local community

*   Develop skills or knowledge beyond the taught curriculum

Our new Year 7 students will work in vertical groups across school, but within Houses, on three core themes for the year:

*   Community

*   Culture and the Arts

*   Wellbeing
