Wellacre students join the working world

Wellacre students were welcomed by over 100 local businesses during Work Experience week in July, from funeral directors to environmental resource managers.

Work experience is a valuable opportunity for young learners and without the generosity of local businesses and professionals, this would not be possible.

Students received glowing reports for their commitment and efforts from across including the following:

* Louis spent the week at Holt Lloyd International and was tasked with delivering a business case presentation to the Managing Director for a ‘patent-pending’ top secret new product.  He impressed the New Development Team so much that they will be committing further research to the product.

* Saif spent an enjoyable week at Marks and Spencers and fitted in very well with the team.

* Nattawin returned to his old school St.Michael’s and was an absolute credit to the school, impressing staff with the progress he has made since leaving in Year 6.

* John was project managing at his placement at Graham Construction and the experience has increased his passion and drive to follow this career path.

* Tom’s work experience placement at a Trafford Golf Centre went so well that they offered him a job!  His boss noted that he always took the initiative, and made sure to ask for further tasks, and helped everyone from the groundsmen to the reception staff.

* Oliver took on a teaching work placement in Wellacre’s humanities department; he was extremely enthusiastic.  He successfully prepared and delivered tasks for Year 8 lessons, in which students were receptive, listened carefully and were engaged.

* Kyle has made such a wonderful impression he now looks forward to a 6-week Summer placement with AKW Global Logistics.

Miss Partridge, Assistant Principal, Teaching and Learning, said:

“We are so grateful to the businesses who accommodated our students and gave them all a fascinating and hands on insight into the real working world.

Each student will take away essential skills, experiences and memories from their work placement that will raise their aspirations and confidence.  All these transferable skills will aid them along their pathway through school to further education or employment.”
