Rugby success for Year 10 Louis

We were delighted to hear Louis Gingell, Year 10, has achieved a place in the Sales Sharks Developing Player Programme (DPP).

The Sale Sharks DPP will engage Louis in a series of training sessions and tournaments, and he will be expected to maintain his high sporting standards to remain on the programme.

Louis said of his achievement:

“I’m really happy and I’ve made my family, rugby coach and team very proud! I’ve always loved rugby and this will give me an opportunity to move up in the sport, improve my standards and play in a higher tournament level.”

Louis’ well-deserved success follows 9 years of commitment to rugby.  When a friend’s dad formed a rugby team in primary school, Louis loved playing the sport from just age 5!  Louis is also a regular player for the Wellacre rugby team and currently plays for Ashton-on-Mersey Under 15s and will continue to do so alongside the Sale Sharks DPP.

Louis added:

“I celebrated with a meal with friends and family.  It was so uplifting to hear the news as I trialled a couple of years ago and wasn’t picked; so it meant so much more!

Rugby keeps me really busy and fit - I train twice a week, do fitness sessions twice a week and I’ll be adding another training session fortnightly with Sale Sharks.”

Wellacre encourages students’ fitness, wellbeing and teamwork and nurtures talent in a variety of sports.

PE Teacher Mr Linton said:

“The Wellacre PE staff are immensely proud of Louis’ achievements. It was clear from day one at Wellacre that Louis was a rugby sensation. Playing for the Wellacre rugby team he showed he was an outstanding competitor, strong in the tackle with an eye for a pass. We were in no doubt he would go on to bigger and better things!”
