Wellacre raises over £1300 for Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital

Every year, Wellacre students in Flixton, choose a charity for a special fundraising drive and through their Executive Council, they chose the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital.

Principal Miss Wicks, challenged Year Groups, through student councils, to raise as much money as possible with a dedicated week each in the Spring 2 term, culminating in a sponsored non-uniform day.

In tutor Groups, students brainstormed and put into action a wide variety of fundraising ideas ranging from bake sales and raffles to fancy dress and sporting competitions!

Fundraising highlights included a battle of wills and stomachs at 9A's Bushtucker Trial. Students Leon, Kaysch, Tom and Max faced teachers to eat rotten eggs, ox tongue, dog food, and maggot and green fly smoothies to collect £45.65.

10N students Matthew and George, alongside form teacher Mrs Lunn, donned tutus, lipstick and monobrows for the day to raise £55.70.

Many lessons were a little quieter as students took on sponsored silences.  On the last day of term members of 7A, Xiomar, Denver and Harry, said nothing at all to help their form raise £40.50.

The 10H boys waxed their legs to generate £60.06 from spectators.  Year 8 Jack took great pleasure in giving brother Ryan a helping hand with his wax strips!

Principal Miss Wicks, said:

“Wellacre’s overwhelming community spirit and ingenuity generated a grand total of £1,325.99 for our chosen charity and we were extremely proud to welcome Phillipa Boyd from the Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital Charity Team to meet with students and hear about all their amazing efforts!”
