Wellacre’s Wall of Fame: Scott Dixon

Former Wellacre student Scott Dixon has been riding high since he left us in 2013!

Scott has enjoyed great success in Professional Showriding, most recently winning the South Africa Horse of the Year 2019 title.

With a passion in horses throughout school, Scott rode at home and at a local level.

Scott said:

“Wellacre were always very supportive of my horse riding.  They gave me the time off needed for County shows as long as I completed my schoolwork.”

After leaving school, Scott was first employed as Head Groom in Cheshire, before being scouted for a position in London working with Jayne Ross, the Olympic Show Rider.

Miss Wicks, Principal, said

“It has been fantastic to see Scott becoming extremely successful in horse riding and travelling the world collecting rosettes. He was an excellent role model to others during his time at Wellacre and we hope he will pop back soon to inspire the next generation of students.”

Since going professional, Scott has competed in most County shows around the country, as well as championships at Royal Windsor, where he was invited to meet the Queen, and The Royal International Horse show.  He secured the UK Horse of the Year 2017 and Australia Horse of the Year 2018 titles, and is now an international show horse panel judge.

As well as training, competing and touring internationally, Scott’s equestrian career has also taken him on an unusual and exciting career path - stunt riding!

He adds:

“My friend was working on the set of ‘Game on Thrones’ and they had some unruly horses that were causing a problem for the Director. So I travelled to Belfast to train and film with them.  I’ve also filmed in the latest Aladdin and Batman films, and will shortly be flying to China for another film.

“I’d never done anything like this before and it was brilliant! It’s unbelievable to have the chance to be a stunt rider and work on these films.”

It’s show season now, so Scott will be busy for the rest of the year travelling around the country competing in 60-70 shows. We wish Scott all the best!
