The centre for visual and performing arts welcomed students from across the UK for the immersive weekend with art professionals challenging students with a variety of projects to provide support for their GCSE coursework.

Teacher of Art, Miss Da Costa, said:

“Spending three days in a concentrated environment supported these students to complete a whole unit of work including a preparation board and final piece.  Working with different art professionals exposed them to different art techniques and approaches to help them in their work.”

Students worked in groups on pieces of art centred on the theme ‘Metropolis’ and committed  at least 18 hours on the project over the course of the weekend.

Year 11 Mason said:

“Myself and Daniel were given a sculpture project.  We started with card and wood, then worked with moulds and concrete to build on our piece.  To finish, we painted the sculpture and learnt new techniques in creating really fine details.

“Working with the art teacher was a really good experience.  She gave us great advice and support, and encouraged us in our project.  My exam topic is ‘My Surroundings’ so the work we produced will help our coursework and exam preparation.”
